Meet Dr. Cassidy Hinojosa
Dr. Cassidy Wright Hinojosa is originally from Cleveland, Mississippi but moved to Texas as a child. She grew up and attended high school in San Antonio. Dr. Cassidy knew from a young age that she wanted to be a physician- specifically, a surgeon. With her father being a general surgeon, she grew up spending her Saturdays rounding at the hospital with him and seeing patients. As she got older, she would spend her summers helping out in his clinic. As a graduating high school senior, she was honored to have received early acceptance into medical school within the Texas A&M system, following completion of her undergraduate studies. She subsequently attended Texas A&M University in College Station where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Psychology. Following graduation, she spent time in Costa Rica where she volunteered with young children teaching them English within the Costa Rican school system.
After returning from Costa Rica, she stayed in College Station for her first two years of medical school at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. She stumbled upon Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery when she did an elective and fell in love with the types of procedures and the patient relationships. She especially enjoyed breast reconstruction and having the opportunity to be involved in the care of a cancer survivor. Thus, with her focus being on Plastic surgery, she finished her last two years of training in Temple, Texas at Scott and White Hospital and graduated with her medical degree with honors.
Upon completing medical school, she joined a residency program at the prestigious University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. University of Missouri is one of the pioneers of the integrated Plastic surgery residency program, offering residents immediate access and training to the field of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery right out of medical school. Dr. Cassidy spent six years of training there under an “apprenticeship” type model, where she had the opportunity to learn a wide variety and breadth of Plastic surgery, including: breast reconstruction, pediatric plastic surgery, craniofacial surgery, hand and upper extremity, as well as aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery. She also spent much of her time performing research and contributing to the knowledge base within the surgical specialty by focusing on innovative practices within breast surgery, craniofacial surgery, pediatric surgery, and quality improvement measures for patients. She spent her last year of training as Chief Resident, where she worked exclusively with one of the leaders within the field of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, who was also the former President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
After her graduation from residency, she was ready to come back home. With Dr. Cassidy having grown up in San Antonio and her husband from Victoria, Texas, Corpus Christi seemed like the perfect place. She was extremely fortunate enough to have met Dr. Vijay, and together, with him, she is proud and excited to serve the patients of South Texas. Dr. Cassidy feels extremely honored to have the privilege to care for patients within the Corpus Christi community. Her practice will focus on both cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries.
Her interests outside of Plastic surgery, include: traveling, trying out new foods, live music, and spending time with her family and her two basset hounds.
