Is Blepharoplasty for me?

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is simply another term for eye lid surgery and refers to the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both. This surgical procedure is designed to remove sagging skin from the eye area and improve the overall appearance of the eye. It can reduce puffiness around the eye and help with patients who may have obstructed vision.

What is this procedure like?

Blepharoplasty is an out patient procedure that is performed often using a local anesthesia with sedation. It can take up to several hours depending on the extent of the surgery. Most patients return home the same day but you must have someone drive you home and preferably stay with you that first night. During the procedure, incisions are made in the crease of the upper eyelid or below the lash line on the lower lid. The excess fat and skin are removed and the incision is then carefully closed with tiny sutures. This procedure maybe combine with a brow lift or a facelift.

Downtime?

After a blepharoplasty you can expect this type of recovery

  • *Stitches are ususally removed after one week
  • *Plan on returning to work 2-3 weeks after surgery
  • *You may exercise & other more strenuous activities after 3 weeks.
  • *Your scars will be well concealed and will fade. They progressively continue to get lighter and lighter over the course of the next 6 months until the are undetectable.
