About this video: Breast Cancer Prevention

Posted February 07, 2019 in Videos

Recommendations regarding mammograms for cancer screening have changed over the years, but generally speaking, women should consider beginning breast exams after the age of 40. Women with a family history of breast cancer should consider beginning the screening at a much earlier age to help detect early signs of breast cancer. Preferably, about ten years before the youngest person in your family was diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition to mammograms, other procedures such as ultrasound, and less commonly, MRIs can be used for early prevention. Any symptoms of breast cancer or changes detected between these screenings should be followed up on as soon as they are detected to decrease the risk factors and increase breast cancer treatment efficiency.
